Ruck

When a tackled player is brought to the ground, they must immediately release the ball. Players then bind together and attempt to kick the ball back to their side in order to gain possession.

Maul

When the progress of the ball is stopped, teams can bind together to form a maul. A maul is similar to a ruck except it occurs with the ball in the player's hands rather than on the ground.

Scrum

A scrum occurs after a minor infraction such as a knock on. The team that did not commit the infraction gets to put the ball into the scrum. Both teams bind together and attempt to kick the ball back toward their side in order to gain possession.

Lineout

A lineout occurs after the ball goes out of bounds, or "in touch" as it is known in rugby. Both teams line up to compete for the ball. The team that did not last touch the ball gets to throw the ball in. Both teams have jumpers who jump up to obtain the ball and lifters who lift them up into the air.
